Research Interests:

I am an optical oceanographer interested in understanding how environmental changes affect marine ecosystems. I am specifically interested in:

  • Impacts of recent climate change on phytoplankton blooms in the Arctic Ocean
  • Phytoplankton ecology and dynamics, species succession
  • Dynamics of suspended particles in marine environments
  • Understanding physical drivers of phytoplankton blooms
  • Ocean color remote sensing and radiometry
  • Bio-optical relationships
  • Light absorption and scattering of seawater constituents
  • Atmospheric correction of optical satellite imagery
  • Quantification and propagation of uncertainties in measurements of optical and biogeochemical properties


Professionnal experience:

  • Postdoctoral fellow Unversité Laval (Québec, Canada). Impact of recent climate change on phytoplankton blooms in the Arctic Ocean’s in- and outflow shelves using remote sensing (August 2014 – present).
  • Postdoctoral researcher Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego (USA). Optical detection of particle concentration, size, and composition within Arctic waters (May 2012 – May 2014).
  • Marine researcher at the Royal Belgian Institute for Natural Sciences – Management Unit of the North Sea Mathematical Models (MUMM), Brussels (Belgium), in parallel to Ph.D. student at the Université du Littoral - Côte d’Opale in Wimereux (France). Optical properties and remote sensing of suspended matter in coastal waters (December 2007 – April 2012).
