Director's Welcome
English: Welcome to Takuvik, the International Research Laboratory dedicated to understanding the Arctic and its rapid transformations.
The Arctic is changing faster than any other region on the planet. Climate change is disrupting its landscapes, ecosystems, societies, and natural balances.
In light of these changes, Takuvik has a clear goal: to better understand these transformations in order to more accurately assess their impacts.
Founded in January 2011, Takuvik emerged from a collaboration between the CNRS and Laval University, and since January 2026 has been part of an even broader initiative with the addition of Sorbonne University, which further strengthens this unique international alliance.
This collaboration allows us to bring together different perspectives, disciplines, and areas of expertise, and to work on terrestrial, coastal, and marine environments, in close collaboration with communities in the North.
We study the Arctic as a global system, where everything is interconnected: the permafrost, the rivers, the ocean, the ecosystems, the climate…
Here, research is pursued with great intensity.
The science developed there is demanding and collaborative. It takes shape in the field, in the North, but also through the analysis of observational data, remote sensing, numerical modeling, and ongoing interdisciplinary dialogue.
Beyond generating knowledge, Takuvik is also a place for training and collaboration. We firmly believe that science must be built collectively and widely shared, for the benefit of society.
Takuvik is a laboratory on a human scale ambitious, open to the world, and focused on one of the greatest scientific challenges of the 21st century.
I invite you to learn more about our teams, our projects, and our areas of research, and to join us in exploring the heart of Arctic issues.
