Research Interests
My project focuses on the dynamics between phytoplankton groups during spring blooms in the Arctic Ocean. I focus on Haptophytes and Diatoms, two major representatives of the phytoplankton community, examining the different environmental factors that might control the dominance dynamics between these two groups. I will compare the physiology of monospecific cultures of Haptophytes (Phaeocystis pouchetii and Isochrysis) and Arctic diatoms in laboratory, growing under a gradient of environmental factors (light, salinity, temperature). I will also study the role of nutrient availability and grazing pressure on the dynamics of the phytoplankton community in situ in mesocosms.
