Research Interests :
I am a geochemist with advanced expertise in analytical isotope geochemistry and in the development of tracers for metal cycles in terrestrial environments. As the Director of the CNRS National Facility for Rock and Mineral Analyses (SARM), my research is highly oriented towards analytical and application developments. For the last 10 years, my team and I developed the isotopic analysis of many elements such as Li, Mg, Zn, Se, Cd and Hg. The goal is to use the natural isotopic abundance to trace sources and transformation processes affecting these elements in the environment. Applications are oriented towards our understanding of natural enrichments of metals in sediments and rocks, including environmental issues. Laboratory experiments are also conducted in order to document isotope fractionation factors associated to specific chemical and phase transformations. My scientific projects of the last five years include: 1) the study of metal-rich black shales and the related sedimentary environments, 2) the tracing of marine detrital sediments in relation to oceanic currents, 3) the source tracing of natural and anthropogenic metal aerosols in volcanic, marine, remote, industrial and urban environments, 4) the evaluation of the phyto-availability and bioaccumulation of metals in soils and in atmospheric environment. I am the coordinator of the Arctic Metals project, a Canada-France-Russia consortium working on sources and fate of metals in permafrost thawing environments.
