Biography:
Guillaume Massé, has over 10 years of research experience in various fields related to the environmental sciences. For his PhD work, he investigated the biosynthetic mechanisms leading to the formation of unusual C25 and C30 Highly Branched Isoprenoid (HBI) alkenes in diatoms. Following a postdoctoral period, investigating the presence of polyprenyl phosphate lipids in diatoms and their potential functions as primitive membrane constituents, he was appointed to a “New-Blood” lectureship at the University of Plymouth in August 2003. In 2008, he obtained a “chargé de recherché” position at the CNRS in Paris. Since that time, he has been investigating the potential of HBI biomarkers to be used as sea ice proxies He has several research publications to his name (including papers in Science and PNAS) and is a recipient of several research awards (NERC, the Royal Society, and most recently, two Chaire d’Excellence Grants grant by the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche and the European Research Council to further develop the use of HBIs as paleoenvironmental proxies).
